Switchgear Testing & Commissioning

Switchgear maintenance, testing, and regular inspections are important safety measures. Some parts are said to require no additional care but should be inspected periodically to ensure proper functionality. The development of a preventive care plan

Switchgear Testing & Commissioning

Technicians installing MV switchgear at a substation compound in Qatar

Pre-commissioning testing, protection relay work and commissioning for new and existing LV and HV switchgear installations.

Pre-commissioning testing

  • Insulation resistance and primary injection testing
  • Contact resistance and circuit breaker timing
  • Current and voltage transformer ratio, polarity and burden checks
  • Verification that primary and secondary fuse and circuit breaker ratings match the drawings
  • Functional testing of drawout, disconnecting and earthing contacts and interlocks
  • Control wiring and scheme verification

Protection and relay work

  • Secondary injection testing of protection relays
  • Parameterisation of numerical relays against the relay coordination document
  • Relay setting and coordination studies
  • Testing and calibration of protection relays on installed equipment

Commissioning

  • Validation of site results against factory acceptance test data
  • Safety interlock verification before energisation
  • Energisation support and load monitoring
  • Test reports and reference data recorded against each panel
